The Fiji Trade and Investment Bureau (FTIB) will today officially launch the 2010 TFL Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Awards (EYA) in Labasa for the first time.
Commissioner Northern Division, Colonel Inia Seruiratu will officiate at the Labasa Launch to be held at the Grand Eastern Hotel.
According to the FTIB Executive Chairman, Mr Adrian Sofield, the traditional venues for the launches have always been Suva and Lautoka, but this year FTIB decided to ‘Look North’ and engage more of the Northern exporters in the Awards.
“The North is a major supplier of commodities such as dalo, yaqona and sugar cane that have a huge demand on the international market. We recognise the potential for other products in the North and want to ensure that the business communities participate in the Exporter of the Year Awards”, Mr Sofield stated.
The Launch is sponsored by Vodafone Fiji Ltd while the major sponsor for the 2010 Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Awards is Telecom Fiji Ltd (TFL).
Awards will be offered in the following categories:
• The TFL Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Award;
• The Polynesian Shipping Small Exporter of the Year Award;
• The LICI Medium Exporter of the Year Award;
• The ANZ Large Exporter of the Year Award;
• The Westpac Services Exporter of the Year Award;
• The Fiji Export Council Unique Exporter of the Year Award;
• The Technix Bitumen Exporter to New Zealand Award;
• The Fiji Australia Business Council Exporter to Australia Award;
• The Home Finance Company Ltd Exporter to the Pacific Islands Award;
• The Fijian Holdings Ltd Indigenous Exporter of the Year Award;

• The BSP Group Manufacturing Exporter of the Year Award;

This year’s EYA theme, Exports Excellence: the Pillar of Economic Prosperity, stresses the importance of increasing exports and its link to economic performance and wealth creation. The Awards is an avenue to recognise and give accolades to Fiji’s exporters and rightfully so, the Bureau will play a more rigorous role this year in calling for applications from exporters not only in the Central/Eastern and Western Divisions but also in the Northern Division.
