Fiji ready to host high-level Japanese delegation

Date: 30 Nov, 2015
Fiji was ready to host a high-level Japanese delegation from 1 December 2015 in Suva.

Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer Mr Godo Müller-Teut said the team was officially welcomed by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Mr Faiyaz Siddiq Koya.

“The Japan Delegation was led by the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Masakazu Hamachi and featured other Japanese Government officials as well as members from their private sector,” Mr Müller-Teut said.

The day-long seminar included presentations from the delegation as well as key Government agencies such as Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Fiji Revenue & Customs Authority, Investment Fiji, Ministry of Agriculture and Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.

“A lot of work was put into preparing to host this in-bound mission. I sincerely thank the Fiji Embassy in Japan, the Embassy of Japan in Fiji, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the Office of the Prime Minister for working together to make the programme a success.

“This mission was a follow-on from the bilateral meeting that Prime Minister Bainimarama had in Japan with the Japanese Prime Minister, the Hon. Shinzo Abe in May, 2015. So, this was a very important meeting which demonstrated the strengthening of ties for both countries, considering that this was the first Japanese highlevel delegation to come to Fiji after a lapse of a number of years,” the CEO said.

The Seminar was held at the Japan-Pacific ICT Centre at the University of the South Pacific prior to one-to-one meetings and site visits for the delegates in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka from Wednesday, 2 December.

The delegation returned to Japan at the end of that week.
