Investment Fiji commends growing interest from Chinese Investors

Date: 03 Mar, 2017
Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Godo Mueller- Teut has encouraged Chinese investors to invest in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and green energy.

Mueller- Teut held a successful meeting with a delegation of 15 senior business executives mainly from Hong Kong and Shanghai yesterday.

“Key interests from the delegation were to find out more on various investment and pro-growth incentives provided by the Fijian Government, potential venture in real estate and tourism businesses, bilateral trade between Hong Kong and mainland China with Fiji,” Mueller- Teut said.

461 investment projects were registered by Chinese citizens or companies from 2011 to 2016. Mueller- Teut says the investment trend remained steady with the number of projects registered annually increasing from 25 in 2011 to 172 in 2016.

“During 2016, a total 37% of companies registered Service related businesses and 32% engaged in Wholesale and Retail activities. Investment Fiji in its capacity as the investment arm of the government has already created promotional videos in Chinese to assist Chinese investors in understanding the investment climate in Fiji,” Mueller- Teut said.

Mueller- Teut says apart from Fijian government various incentives such as low tax rate and creation of tax free zones, Investment Fiji has developed a comprehensive after care service to ensure investors are well taken care of during their investment journey in Fiji.

“These incentives from the government and Investment Fiji are geared towards enhancing investor confidence. We are also seeing the benefits of it where more investors are enquiring about investment opportunities. We are also seeing more projects being registered and Investment Fiji works closely with the investors to ensure their projects are implemented,” he said.
