Commissioner Northern commends Investment Fiji

Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima has revealed that the northern division has generated interests from both domestic and foreign investors in recent years.

“Right now, we have two major projects that are in the pipeline and we look forward to its completion, which includes the Damodar City complex and Rups Investment.  These projects will create more job opportunities for the people of Labasa,” stated Rainima.

“One of the other significant projects is the Nawi Island Marina and Foreshore development in Savusavu.”

While addressing the Investment Fiji team during a three-day Northern Division tour, Rainima applauded the significant role of the organization in bringing investors into the country.

“The team at Investment Fiji has done a tremendous work in facilitating these projects and I appreciate that. At the Commissioner Northern office, we support the agency and we guarantee that we are always here to provide any assistance the team may require fromus,” assured Rainima.

Investment Fiji Board Chair Ms. Jenny Seeto stated she is pleased with the progress of the development projects in Labasa and Savusavu and highlighted that the Northern Division has a lot of investment and trade potential.

“We work with all kinds of innovative businesses and every investor is important for us.  Investment Fiji’s new mandate provides equal opportunities for both domestic and foreign investors, and we are glad we were able to contribute to the investment projects in North,” said Ms. Seeto.

Seeto was accompanied by Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer Kamal Chetty, who highlighted that the agency has a dual focus: growing export companies out of Fiji and attracting investment into the country.

“We have streamlined processes and we tailor our support to our clients’ changing needs, offering guidance to those at the beginning of their investment and export journey and engaging more intensively with those who are already established,” mentioned Chetty.

The Chief Executive Officer added that the purpose of the trip is to meet and interact with businesses on investment and trade related logistic matters to identify where Investment Fiji can fit in to offer assistance, guidance and advice.

“Our long-term goal is aligned to the Fijian Government’s vision to further improve Fiji’s economy,” said Chetty.

Investment Fiji team also met with the Acting Chief Executive Officer at the Labasa Town Council, Faiz Ali.  According to Ali, Labasa has a huge potential in Agriculture sector however there are growth opportunities in other areas as well.

“We would like to focus on Tourism investment and appreciate if Investment Fiji could assist us in terms of creating opportunities in the manufacturing sector as well,” expressed Ali.
