Tonga Business Mission 2025 to Strengthen Trade and Investment Ties
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica will to lead a 24-member delegation including Government officials and self-funded private sector organisations to the Kingdom of Tonga on a business mission aimed at enhancing investment and trade opportunities between the two countries from May 5 to May 8.
The Tonga Business Mission 2025 is facilitated by Investment Fiji and the Ministry for Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises with key partners, the Tonga Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development in Tonga.
“As Fiji’s largest export market in the Pacific region, it is only right that we engage with the kingdom and explore ways to strengthen our long-standing trade and investment links.”
“The delegation is keen to workon maintaining bilateral trade and investment opportunities,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs, and Communications, Hon.Manoa Kamikamica.
In 2024, Fiji exported FJ$161.8 million worth of goods to Tonga.
The top exports to Tonga in 2024 include flour,biscuits, paints and varnishes, and eggs, with opportunities for Fiji to also increase its export share in Tonga's market, with a significant untapped otential for Fijian sugar.
There is also high growth potential for biscuits, building materials, fresh and frozen seafood, canned food, and ready-made drinks.
Investors from Tonga have registered projects in Fiji established in the transport and services sectors.
Additionally, the mission also serves as an opportunity to grow and facilitate investment interests cross key sectors such as tourism, infrastructure, services, and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG).
Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer Kamal Chetty said this mission will serve to bolster private sector collaboration and explore new avenues for growth.
"Additionally, through the mission we aim to facilitate qualified trade and investment leads across sectors such as Tourism, Infrastructure, Services, and FMCGs, and capture potential business opportunities,” he said.
“The Tonga Business Mission 2025 represents a pivotal opportunity for Fiji to strengthen its economic engagement with our Pacific neighbours. We aim to also create strong networks and ultimately enhance the capabilities of our exports,” added Chetty.
The Tonga Business Mission will serve as Fiji’s commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and advancing economic opportunities across the Pacific.
Private-sector companies attending the Tonga Business Mission includes, Punjas, Goodman Fielder, Tropik Woods, Ashabhai, Paradise Technologies, Vinod Patel, Rooster Poultry, Juice Fiji, Food Processors Limited and Propharma Pte Limited.
